View To Montmartre PLQ16 Plaque
Montmartre is a large hill in northern Paris which gives its name to the surrounding district and is most famous for its artistic history and for the white-domed Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur on its summit. From Sacré-Cœur’s dome towering above the Seine, the basilica overlooks the entire city of Paris and its suburbs. It is the second most popular tourist destination in the capital after the Eiffel Tower.
Near the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century, during the Belle Époque, many artists lived, worked, or had studios in or around Montmartre, including Degas, Monet, Picasso, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec and van Gogh. Over a hundred years on and Montmartre is still inspiring designers today, including Vicky Lovatt.
Vicky’s View to Montmartre takes you on a journey as you wind your way along the treelined boulevards, slowly climbing ever higher towards the Sacré-Cœur at the top of the scene. Walking past colourful cafes and restaurants, the Parisian shutters are thrown open in welcome and the scent of wisteria hangs in the air, as the purple and lilac flowers cascade from the buildings and walls that flank the cobbled narrow streets.
