Masquerade 93/8 Vase

Take a closer look at the wildflowers at RSPB Conwy and you may be lucky enough to spot a Crab Spider or a Swollen-thighed Beetle sat on one of the Ox-eye Daisy heads. Of greater curiosity, and found hidden in the grasslands, and even near the reserve’s café, are the native orchids of Britain, the Bee Orchid. Evocatively, the stem displays several relatively large flowers with pinkish-cream sepals that look like wings, and furry, brown lips that have yellow markings on, just like a bee. In fact, this Moorcroft design, when viewed from a distance, does witness the humble bumblebee feasting among violet blooms with a closed bud pictured at the rim of the vase, ready to masquerade.
