Heritage Rose PLQ7 Plaque
Moorcroft designer, Emma Bossons was inspired by a hand-coloured engraving of a rose styled as Rosa × centifolia purpurea from Henry Cranke Andrews’s ‘Roses: or a Monograph of the Genus Rosa’ Volume 1 (London, 1805-1828). Moorcroft artistry has captured the large, fully double blooms of rich purple, with a mustard-yellow central eye under glaze. This is not easy. The antique engravings used difficult colour shades: mulberry, grape and even egg-plant. Indeed, to achieve the depth of colour required for Heritage Rose, an experienced Moorcroft artist would first need to see if this was possible before Moorcroft could begin to do justice to the work of Henry Cranke Andrews (f.1794 – 1830), a talented botanical artist, engraver and colourist. Fortunately for Moorcroft, colour accuracies were achieved to enable these gloriously large and colourful roses to circle a curvaceous vase, and adorn a plaque. Heritage Rose will hold your gaze; their ruffled blooms, loosely packed with an abundance of petals, and golden stamens swirling like ruched taffeta in a waltz, among matt-green toothed foliage to create a rose extravaganza. Simply sensational.
