Nonesuch 226/5 Vase
Historically in the 1600s, a vivid little flower Lychnia chalcedonica produced dye that stood out from the comparatively drab hues on offer at the time. Rich red cloth was produced and was nicknamed ‘Nonesuch Red’ as ‘there be nonesuch [nothing] like it’.
Today, this plant is still celebrated for its scarlet red blooms. It is a member of the carnation family and due to its showy flowers it is a real show-stopper in any garden growing up to 4ft in height. Whilst it also flowers with white or pink petals, the most well-known is the bright red variety which loves to bask in the summer sun, regularly attracting bees, butterflies and hummingbirds.
