Seconds Cloud Wine MLK Vase

Just as we know not to judge a book by its cover, connoisseurs have learned not to judge a wine by its label, unless, of course, it is the label on the First Growth wine of Chateau Mouton Rothschild, where an exceptional array of artists, including Jean Cocteau, Salvador Dali and Henry Moore have designed labels for the wine grower. Cloud Wine holds a tongue-in-cheek label from Moorcroft’s Kerry Goodwin, where the label is, in fact, not label at all.

If truth be known, the fine 2024 vintage is not wine, but something even more special – creativity and heritage. In much the same way as a folly creates the nostalgia of a long-lost fairy-tale, Cloud Wine, has never been corked. Like Chateau Mouton Rothschild, Moorcroft has a magnificent vineyard. For the winery, the richness of the gravel and clay makes a natural home for Cabernet Sauvignon, the premier grape for what he world’s best vineyards. Owners may have come and gone, but those vineyards remain treasured. And so it is with Moorcroft. Its unique form, heritage and craft techniques, handed down from one generation to the next, means that it will remain a national treasure.

 

What is a Moorcroft second? All our art pottery is closely inspected before it leaves the Moorcroft factory and the selection process is as rigorous as any in the world. As a result, not all pieces emerge unblemished in their quality assessment. The fault or faults may be in the finish of a piece, whether it be a tiny tubeline miss, an incorrectly painted petal, or a small glaze run. Seconds are not ‘red-dotted’, all of them are far too good for that, and each seconds piece has a charm and individuality of its own. Any fault is not structural and the piece can still be used for the purpose it was made.
