Birds and Mistletoe 2/7 Vase
Inspired by C.F.A. Voysey’s Birds and Mistletoe wallpaper, Nicola has created a festive vase and plaque featuring white mistletoe berries and stylised golden birds. Voysey (1857-1941) was an architect, furniture and textile designer and his fabrics, furnishings and wallpapers, created in an Arts and Crafts style, have become closely associated with the design movement. Today, Voysey’s Birds and Mistletoe resides in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
In 1896, design magazine ‘The Studio’ wrote that ‘a “Voysey wallpaper” sounds almost as familiar as a “Morris chintz” or a “Liberty silk”’. Nicola is familiar with late 20th century Arts and Crafts designs and in this duo her mistletoe leaves are a soft sage green while those of the tree that the pair of birds sit in, are a brighter turquoise. The birds face each other creating a mirror image with myriad white berries hanging above their heads.
