"Roses Are Red" is a love poem and children's rhyme that is now synonymous with Valentine's Day with multiple humorous and parodic variants. The poem can be traced far back as Edmund Spenser's epic The Faerie Queene of 1590: She bath'd with roses red, and violets blue, And all the sweetest flowers, that in the forrest grew.’ Complete with a trio of scarlet-red Art Nouveau style roses, and stylised violets rich in colour, Nicola utilises her favourite colourway, by bridging the flowers with a dark blue heart.
