Pannage - Master PLQ8 Plaque
Senior Designer, Rachel Bishop knew all about the ritual of pannage from her childhood in the New Forest. Pannage allowed local folk to free their domestic pigs to roam the New Forest every September when acorns and other nuts fall from the trees. Under the shadow of ancient oaks, this design holds a trio of pigs scouring the forest to eat up all the acorns and nuts to unknowingly help the ponies and other cattle, as these “pig treats” would be poisonous to them. Balancing neatly on an overhanging branch, a grey squirrel clutches an acorn from above the feasting hoard, happy at least, that some chestnuts have already been stowed away.
