Hockeridge and Pancake Woods - Jay PLQ12 Plaque

Numbered Edition
Plaque

A prestige vase and a plaque quartet highlight the story of Miss Mary Wellesley, Great-great Granddaughter of the Duke of Wellington, a lady who had a bold vision for the future. Through the sheer love and understanding of trees she was the harbinger of a resilient woodland, known as Hockeridge and Pancake Woods, that not only looked beautiful, with colourful and architectural avenues of trees, but supported wildlife, combated disease and the challenges associated with our changing climate.

Hockeridge and Pancake Woods have been planted with a wide variety of ornamental and forest trees including traditional native species such as beech, oak, and cherry which provide food and cover for birds such as jay, known for its love of acorns which it often leaves hidden. It is said, these forgotten snacks are credited with the rapid spread of oaks after the last Ice Age. Kerry beckons a jay to soar with his pale crown, flushed-pink plumage and distinctive electric-blue feathers, through the heart of this ancient woodland as yellow, oyster-coloured mushrooms shoot up in clusters at the base of the plaque.
