Rameses 769/6 Ginger Jar
Cymbidium Rameses gx, a hybrid of Cymbidium Midas gx x Cymbidium Ramboda gx, was the brainchild of H.W.B. Schroder in the late 1940s. The plant gained a First Class Certificate from the RHS when exhibited on 6 March 1951 and was exquisitely painted by Nelly Roberts.
In celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the birth of Nelly Roberts, Moorcroft designer, Nicola Slaney, ignites this iconic orchid illustration in her Rameses design, which shrouds the creamy white sepals and petals against a dramatic black ground as stems twist and turn around the orchids.
Interestingly, Nelly established the signature style of the RHS orchid portrait – with the flower always painted face-on and to scale, and using a coloured background so that the paler orchid flowers would stand out. Rameses resurrects the very handprint of Nelly’s style but with something more – a design in the round that moves like Nelly’s life itself, with effortless grace and beauty.
