Vicky uses the imagery of a dove, spanning the width of this Moorcroft tray in majestic form over a stylised oyster shell, together with myrtle sprigs and blushed-pink roses to create a design honouring Venus. Rooted in key mythology themes, the duality of love and the divine feminine are revealed. Rose thorns symbolize the difficulty felt by lovers, while their petals represent their beauty and joy; myrtle and the trees attractiveness to bees and pollination, the divine feminine.

So there we have it. Venus, often depicted standing or emerging from a shell, to emphasize her connection to the feminine, the power of creation and fertility in famous paintings like Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus, now enchants in symbols, colours and form underglaze.
