Views from Central Park 82/16 Vase
Created for World Architecture Day, the heart and soul of Manhattan, Central Park, has been inescapably captured in this prestigious design. Moorcroft designer, Nicola Slaney, weaves 843 acres of green space featuring running paths, a boating lake complete with sailing and rowing boats, ponds, fountains, statues, and gardens with erupting magnolia blooms.
With each turn of the vase, new vistas are discovered. New Yorkers and visitors alike have gathered at this national historic landmark year-round since 1857 to enjoy a respite from Manhattan’s concrete jungle which soars up to the upper echelons of the vase. In truth, the Chrysler building and the giant architectural structures of Wall Street almost appear to grow out of the colossal trees of this design.
Unmistakably, it is the sanctuary of Central Park to which the designer draws you, where smaller, architectural beauties can be appreciated, such as the famous Bow Bridge. Nicola reminds us through the gold leaf statue of Union General William Tecumseh Sherman on the primary east side entrance to Central Park, that the Applied Arts are no less important when considering an architectural cityscape.
