April Showers 200/8 Vase

Limited Edition
Vase

Without doubt, the design that carved Kerry out as a designer of merit was, her prestige design, Potteries in Recession. In this iconic design, umbrellas battle against the winds of recession in Stoke-on-Trent - a city which once was once a power house for the industrial revolution. Great names were born here such as William Moorcroft, Thomas Minton, Josiah Spode and Josiah Wedgwood. The same can be said of some of our own Design Studio members like Kerry who was born and bred only a stone’s throw from Moorcroft.

Stoke-on-Trent is known far and wide as the ceramics capital of the world earning itself the title of ‘The Potteries’. To this day the name remains in use despite the huge changes in both the economy, surviving potteries and the landscape of the six towns that make up the City of Stoke-on-Trent. Nevertheless, there are many signs of the locality’s celebrated ceramic industry remain, from the array of heritage street and ceramic factory signs, the remaining bottle ovens, most of which are now listed buildings, as well as the glorious examples of the City of Stoke-on-Trent and her individual town’s coat of arms.

April Showers sees a flurry of shapes including teapots and vases lifted up above the miry clay and carried on a rainbow of umbrellas over the City’s bottle ovens that soar into the skyline and into the firmament itself. Ironically, this design was fired in the wettest April on record thereby showing beauty among the ashes of recession.
