Victorian Valentine PLQ18 Plaque
A classic Victorian valentine bouquet was sweet and simple: carnations, forget-me-nots, moss roses (most likely to be pink or white and not red), and delicate violets. The message was reinforced by the inclusion of leafy ferns which symbolised sincerity. The bouquet spoke of love, but also paid a compliment to the recipient’s character due to the flowers that were included in, which in the language of flowers meant love, true devotion, sweetness and humility. On the surface it was a modest looking posy, but one that contained within it a wealth of meanings.
Nicola’s framed plaque carries on the Victorian valentine tradition today, with pink roses, forget-me-nots, pink tinged white carnations, ferns and both purple and white violets vying for your affections. All together making a delightful bouquet.
