Moonpenny - Number 1 PLQ8 Plaque
Often found growing in swathes along field edges, daisies are just as at home in traditional hay meadows. The well-known white flowers are easy to identify and are a common wildflower to discover during the warmer months from June to September. Their tiny yellow centres can appear so bright that they appear to 'glow' in the evening, hence their other names being 'moon daisy' and 'moonpenny'.
Nicola has added to her design soft, golden dandelions, around which bees dance and dart. Ornate orange butterflies hover overhead, their delicate wings interlaced with an intricate black pattern and covered in myriad white dots.
Once a common part of everyday life, meadows and flower-rich grasslands have sadly almost entirely disappeared. It is estimated that 97% or 7.5 million acres have been lost since the 1930s but in Moonpenny the summer meadow is still in full bloom and very much alive with the creatures that make this idyll their home.
