Chawton Cottage Garden 393/10 Vase

Limited Edition
Vase

Jane Austen’s cottage in the village of Chawton had a charming garden together with beehives, a kitchen garden, an orchard and a shrubbery. Jane very much enjoyed walking in the shrubbery – perhaps it was a quiet place to think. Writing to her sister in May 1811 she described it as “very gay with Pinks and Sweet Williams, in addition to the columbines already in bloom. The syringas, too, are coming out….” and it was a favoured place within her Hampshire home where the romance of her own cottage garden inspired some of her best literary work during the most productive writing period of her life. Kerry’s design features both pale pink pinks, or carnations as they are also known, together with bi-coloured red and white Sweet William – with a soft Regency blush coming from the delicate lilac that she has added, often called syringa during Austen’s era.
